The psychic realm is not the same as the spiritual realm. Psychic faculties and powers are not the same as spiritual faculties and powers. In fact, there is nothing spiritual about the psychic.
It is unclear where this peculiar notion originated but it is certainly clear that it has never been held by any of the spiritual or esoteric traditions in history. All presentations and teachings of the Ancient Wisdom, in whatsoever nation and at whatsoever time, have always drawn a very clear and distinct line between psychic and spiritual.
The psychic realm is only one level above the physical realm and in fact interpenetrates it to a large extent. Bearing this in mind we can more clearly understand why the psychic plane, or astral plane as it is also known in Theosophy, is spoken of as the unseen atmosphere surrounding the terrestrial and indelibly imprinted with every thought, word, emotion, imagination, experience, and action of humankind, past and present. In a very real sense it is a type of “collective unconscious ".
H.P. Blavatsky, founder of the Theosophical Movement,, was never sparing in her criticism and sincere warning for those individuals who would rather plunge into the psychic realms and psychic-type experiences than actually apply their minds, intelligence, and personal effort to make proper spiritual progress.
For the purposes of this discussion, an entity is any psychic contaminant; anything perceived as outside of you that feeds off your energy or emotions. These emotions become the entities nourishment, their fuel source. It can be a thought form that has taken on a life of its own, environmental influences (the past remnants of severe emotional intensity), or external "dark entities" or "demonic forces".
Demons rarely manifest themselves as they truly are. Their hatred, rage, and desire to feed upon chaos are hidden behind subtle and carefully chosen disguises, often manifesting in the guise of angelic beings. Rarely would anyone follow these creatures if they dared to show themselves.
Demons have an extensive knowledge of human nature and the psychology of man. Demons can size up an individual and determine a plan of destruction for an individual or group of individuals. Demons have the wisdom of the ages at their disposal and can draw upon that vast knowledge. With their penchant to exploit human weaknesses and their desire to feed upon negative energy these dark entities and demonic forces should be treated with deadly seriousness.
A psychic attack is the sending of negative energy with the conscious or unconscious intention to inflict mental or physical harm upon a person. These negative energies are typically projected in the form of thought from another individual, or from negative or demonic entities. Many different cultures and traditions, including Kabbalah, Chinese, and Indian, recognize these malicious spells and other spiritual attacks as a serious threat.
Negative energies, such as spirit attachments and energy vampires are far more prevelent than most people are aware.
(A psychic vampire is a term used to describe a living person who "drains" others emotionally. They do this either empathically, by draining the prana or life force or metaphorically by taking emotionally without giving anything in return. These so-called "vampires" are not to be confused with the blood-sucking vampires of folklore.)
One theory holds that demonic entities initially haunt people to break down their wills and to create an atmosphere of fear and confusion. This weakens a person on physical, psychological and spiritual levels. Once a person becomes weakened to this extent, it becomes easier for a demon or other entity to take possession of that person. Demonic possession differs from a demonic haunting in that a person’s spirit and body become the object of the possession. This demonic control may manifest in many degrees from mild to complete perfect possession.
Demonologists believe that once demonic entities possess an individual, exorcism may be necessary, but that can often be a difficult and dangerous process. Therefore, an exorcist may have to conduct a ritual purification by undergoing a spiritual and physical cleanse to purify themselves through fasting and praying beforehand. Otherwise, the exorcist may become spiritually weakened and subsequently harmed or influenced, due to a demon’s great powers of manipulation. According to many accounts of exorcism, unseen evil forces or the possessed individual can frequently injure an exorcist. It is therefore critical that people do not attempt exorcisms themselves and that they seek help from a trained and experienced spiritual practitioner.
Religious exorcism is mainly thought of as the rite of driving out the Devil and his demons from possessed persons. Exorcism is mainly performed in incidences of demonic possession that is generally distinguished from spiritual possession. A general assumption is that the Roman Catholic singularly practices the rite of exorcism, but some Protestant denominations such as the Pentecostals and other charismatic groups practice it as well. These groups refer to the practice as "deliverance ministry" where gifted people drive out devils and heal while they touch the persons with their hands, ("laying on of hands") and pray over them.
The greatest danger to the exorcist is becoming possessed by the Devil or demon himself. This is the reason why the exorcist must feel as free of sin as possible and feel no secret need for punishment. Otherwise, the Devil or demon can easily entrap him. The former Jesuit priest and professor, Malachi Martin, stated in his book "Hostage to the Devil" that much of the success of the exorcism depends upon the exorcist. To Martin, the most important thing is the exorcist's disposition and those of his assistants. Very few experienced exorcists would ever choose to work alone.
The ritual of exorcism is more cautiously employed by the Catholic Church at present than it once was. When reviewing the conditions for demonic possession that were once listed one can easily see many of the symptoms are those of epilepsy, hysteria, schizophrenia, and other psychological disorders. So priests are cautioned to be as certain as possible the person is truly demonically possessed before performing the ritual.
Spirit Release Therapy (SRT) involves identifying the spirit, the reason for attaching itself and detaching it. This form of spirit release is not new; it has been practiced by psychics and shamans all over the world throughout history. After removal further sessions of energy healing maybe required to the physical body, emotional state and aura to strengthen, balance, cleanse and protect. Also if the spirit has attached for a particular reason that reason may need addressing so that other such spirits do not attach for the same reason in the future.
"If you really look hard at the evidence, the most rational conclusion
is to believe that the demonic is real."
